Industrial Waste/Pretreatment
The Industrial
Waste Section regulates industrial users of the sanitary sewer system
in accordance with the Clean Water Act. County businesses are surveyed,
inspected and monitored to prevent toxic or harmful substances from
entering the collection system and reaching the treatment plant.
Some industrial users are required to pretreat their wastewater prior to discharge to the sewer. Benefits of pretreatment include:
- Reduction of pollutants to, and protection of treatment plants;
- Lower treatment and disposal costs;
- Improve health and safety;
- Compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations;
- Cleaner environment.
