The Wastewater
Management Program is a member of the Department of Environmental
Quality’s (DEQ) Virginia Environmental Excellence Program (VEEP). The
Virginia DEQ established this program to promote the development of
Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and Pollution Prevention (P2)
programs by Virginia businesses and both local and state government
agencies. The VEEP program promotes three levels of participation in its
program. The first level is the Environmental Enterprise (E2) level which
indicates that a facility is in the early stages of developing or
implementing their EMS. The Exemplary Environmental Enterprise (E3) level
is achieved when a facility has fully implemented their EMS and P2
program with documented results and a record of sustained compliance with
environmental regulations. The Extraordinary Environmental Enterprise
(E4) level is achieved when a facility has a fully implemented EMS that
has successfully run for a full year and has been verified by a third
party auditor. The E4 facility has also committed to measures for
continuous and sustainable environmental progress and community
involvement.
Currently the Wastewater Management Program has achieved E2 status and is in the process of applying for E3 status. The Wastewater Management Program is dedicated to enhancing and protecting the environment and the health and safety of both the community and its employees through its Environmental Management and Pollution Prevention program. Currently the departments in the Wastewater Management Program are committed to recycling efforts, employee health and safety programs, air pollution reduction, water conservation and protection, and nutrient reduction efforts.
