Board of Supervisors Public Hearings and Mark-up Meetings

Schedule for 2008 BRAC Area Plans Review

Public hearings before the Board of Supervisors have not been scheduled at this time, but are expected to be held in January 2009. The schedule will be posted here as soon as it is available.

Location: Board Auditorium, Fairfax County Government Center

TO SIGN UP TO SPEAK AT THE PUBLIC HEARINGS: Sign up online or call the Clerk to the Board of Supervisors at 703-324-3151, TTY 703-324-3903.

Public Hearings/Mark-up meetings are broadcast live on Cable Channel 16 and the Channel 16 Web site.

The purpose of the 2008 BRAC Area Plans Review (APR) process is to evaluate nominations to amend the County's Comprehensive Plan. Only nominations recommended for approval by the Planning Commission will be the subject of Board of Supervisors public hearings. APR nominations which do not receive a favorable recommendation by the Planning Commission are denied and will not be subject to further consideration during this APR process.

At the Board of Supervisors public hearings, citizens have an opportunity to address the Board about the nominations, either by speaking at the public hearing or by submitting written testimony to the Clerk to the Board for distribution to the Board prior to the public hearing.

Following the public hearing for each nomination, the Board is anticipated to act on that nomination. The Board will either vote to leave the Plan unchanged or vote to amend the Plan. Occasionally, the Board may be defer the decision to a later date which will be announced at the public hearing.

Based on the final actions taken by the Board of Supervisors, the text and/or maps of the County's Comprehensive Plan will be modified to reflect all amendments. The Comprehensive Plan can be found on the Department of Planning and Zoning Web site. When the Plan on the Web has been updated, an announcement will be made on the free e-mail subscription service, "Comprehensive Plan Announcements." The public is urged to subscribe in order to stay informed about this and other planning projects. For questions about the Comprehensive Plan, call the Planner of the Day for the Planning Division, Department of Planning and Zoning, at 703-324-1380 on weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
