 Jury Comments – 2004 Award Winners

 

National Air and Space MuseumHonor Award
National Air and Space Museum,
Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center

Selection was based primarily on the building architecture and overall significance to the profession and environment. The Architecture is strong, interesting and exciting, utilizing building materials and elements that spark the interest of the visitor and draws them inside the space.

 

 

MITRE Corporation – Pedestrian BridgeMerit Award
MITRE Corporation
Pedestrian Bridge

This project was considered by the jury to be a simple solution for connecting two buildings. The Jury thought this to be a well designed project with nice composition of building materials between the existing buildings and the new structure.

 

 

Trillium HouseMerit Award
Trillium House

The Trillium House, a very large building, was broken up in to smaller components allowing the architecture to work in concert with the site. The Jury selected this structure for the use building materials, landscaping and the relationship to its natural environment.

 

 

Unity of FairfaxHonorable Mention
Unity of Fairfax

Unity of Fairfax won an honorable mention for Master Planning and Site Planning. The Jury felt that this was a good solution for the architectural connection between the existing and proposed new sanctuary while preserving a significant landscape feature—a very large tree.
