Meetings

The Advisory Group meets the fourth Monday of every month, unless otherwise noted. An alternating schedule of morning and evening meetings has been established to accommodate work schedules and other obligations of the members. The Advisory Group meetings primarily function as work sessions facilitated by the Advisory Group chairs with support from staff. However, all meetings are open to the general public and the Advisory Group chairs may invite public comments and questions at the end of each meeting. Additionally, the agenda, meeting minutes, and materials from each meeting are available on the Embark website.

Monthly Advisory Group meetings are supplemented by community meetings held at various points throughout the process. The purpose of the community meetings is for the general public to receive information about key topics, ask questions, and provide input about the multimodal vision for the Richmond Highway Corridor.

Certain decisions about recommended future transportation improvements for Richmond Highway have already been made as a result of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation's Route 1 Multimodal Alternatives Analysis and Board of Supervisors' endorsement of the study's recommendations. The agreed upon decisions about the phased implementation of multimodal transportation improvements are as follows

  1. Roadway widening from four to six lanes to create a consistent, six-lane cross-section;
  2. Continuous facilities for pedestrian and bicyclists along the 15 mile corridor (configurations will vary depending on urban design, right-of-way availability, and other local considerations);
  3. Contingent upon land use changes and project funding, a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system from Huntington to Route 123 in Woodbridge in Prince William County, and ultimately a 3-mile Metrorail Yellow Line extension from Huntington to Hybla Valley.

The current Embark Richmond Highway focus area is the Richmond Highway Corridor from Huntington to Fort Belvoir. The above decisions will NOT be revisited in the Embark process, but rather are to be planned and designed in this process.

Information on current and past meetings can be viewed below.  A complete schedule of future Advisory Group and Community Meetings can be viewed here.
