Past Fairfax Forward Public Participation

Fairfax Forward    2013 Work Program

Past Community Outreach and Participation

Community input and stakeholder feedback was essential to developing the recommendations of Fairfax Forward.  Input was primarily gathered during a series of community meetings scheduled around the county in each of the Supervisor Districts during 2011 and 2012.  Special presentations were also given to Board-appointed advisory groups, such as the Environmental Quality Advisory Committee and the Community Revitalization and Reinvestment Advisory Committee, as well as county staff from various agencies. The most recent presentation is available here.  Comments and questions also were received through phone calls and written correspondence through the project email address and postal service.

Public Comment Period

The draft staff recommendations for Fairfax Forward (the proposed changes to the planning process and the draft 12/12/12 work program) were published on December 14, 2012.  Public comment on the recommendations between December 14, 2012 and January 18, 2013.  Staff submitted all comments to the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors as part of the final staff report.  Review the public comment.

2011 Public Input Opportunities

During the APR Retrospective, nine community meeeting were held throughout the county (approximately one in each Supervisor district) to gather input on what worked well and what needed improvement during the most recent APR cycle.  Staff facilitated a discussion with community members and recorded all comments.  The notes are available upon request.  The meetings were held between August and October 2011.

Another source of input came from a stakeholder survey, conducted (online and in paper format) in Spring 2011 to ask specific questions about the recent APR cycle.  Approximately 130 completed responses and 90 partial responses were received.  Results are available here.

An email address was established to receive feedback on the process as well.
