Fairfax Forward Editorial Updates
EDITORIAL UPDATES (Plan Amendment S11-CW-6CP)
This Plan amendment presents the first step to institute regular Plan maintenance as part of Fairfax Forward.
Scope of Work
The amendment presents editorial revisions to the following sections of the Comprehensive Plan:
- Policy Plan Preface sections: Goals for Fairfax County, Overview of the Comprehensive Plan, and Fairfax County in Context, and
- Area Plans: Overview sections of the planning districts and the Character sections of the community planning sectors
The editorial updates generally intend to:
- Correct factual information,
- Remove out of date references, and
- Ensure a uniform writing style.
For example, references to the Richmond, Fredricksburg, and Potomac Railroad would be amended to reflect the current name of the CSX railroad, and references to planned public facilities, which are now open, would to be removed.
The proposed changes do not intend to modify Plan recommendations, as recommendations are located in subsequent sections of the planning district and planning sectors text. If Plan recommendations were found in the Overview and Character sections, the text is proposed to be moved to the Recommendations sections of the planning sector, unless it is already stated.
In addition, descriptions of activity centers, which have Plan text located in a separate section from the community planning sector or planning district, have been substituted with references to direct the reader to the appropriate activity center section. The scope of work does not include text changes for activity centers, such as Baileys Crossroads Community Business Center or the Fairfax Center Area.
Why are these sections selected?
The Preface to the Policy Plan and the Overview and Character sections in the Area Plans serve as introductions to their respective sections. The Preface to the Policy Plan states the goals of Fairfax County, introduces the twelve functional areas of the Plan, and provides context for the county. The Overview and Character sections provide such information as boundaries, existing land uses, and notable features. Reviewing the introductions is the first step to Plan maintenance.
