Public Comment on Draft Guiding Planning Principles
One of the first efforts by the task force was to review the 12 objectives listed in the Tysons Corner Urban Center Plan (1994) and to suggest revised language that would result in more robust implementation of these objectives, especially in light of the advent of the Metrorail extension to Tysons and beyond. Once this was done, the task force decided to identify a few Guiding Planning Principles that would further result in meeting these objectives. These principles were a direct result of twenty community dialogue events where participants from neighboring communities, business interests and other stakeholders were asked to produce priority lists of values/concerns/issues that should be vigorously addressed.
In July 2006 the task force released a working draft of the Guiding Planning Principles for public comment. At the August 2006 task force meeting the Perspectives Group, a public outreach firm hired by the task force, distributed a summary of comments received. The task force approved a final version of the Guiding Planning Principles at its September 2006 meeting. Also, the communications subcommittee of the task force prepared a matrix that links these Guiding Planning Principles to the values expressed by participants in the initial community dialogues.
