Public Workshops on Alternatives for Growth

Public Workshops on Alternatives for Growth

Urban design map used in Tysons Corner workshops The task force held six interactive, hands-on workshops during the week of March 19, 2007.   The purpose of the workshops was to receive input from a diverse group of stakeholders on “Alternatives for Growth” that frame a broad range of possibilities for managing growth in Tysons Corner.  Participants also identified issues that are integral to the quality of a future Tysons.  The following documents were provided or presented to all who attended the workshops:

The workshops were advertised through local newspapers, public libraries, the Fairfax County web page, mailings to homeowner associations, and several e-mail lists.  Almost 300 people participated, including residents of Tysons Corner and its surrounding communities, employees who work in Tysons, business owners, developers and design professionals, representatives from non-profit organizations, and local officials.  These participants completed the workshop exercises in groups of 6 to 8, and at the conclusion of the workshops each group presented its priorities for creating a dynamic, livable, and workable future for Tysons.

On March 22, 2007, the task force and its consultants held a summary session to discuss what was heard during the workshops.  Input from the workshops will be used to create a set of refined alternatives for the future of Tysons Corner, which will be presented for public review during the summer of 2007.  These alternatives will lead to the development of a preferred model in the fall.
