Only a lot that exceeds the minimum provisions of the Zoning Ordinance may be subdivided to create more lots, and only when the resultant lots themselves each meet the minimum lot requirements for its specific zoning district. The Department of Planning and Zoning certifies that minimum lot requirements, including minimum lot area and minimum lot width, are met. Once determined, citizens are then referred to the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services, who is tasked with maintaining and enforcing the subdivision process.
To determine if your lot meets the minimum lot requirements contact the Planner of the Day at 703-324-1314, TTY 711.
If minimum lot requirements are met, contact the Engineer of the Day, 703-324-1575, TTY 711 to process your subdivision request.
