An application for a temporary special permit (TSP) must be filed
at least three (3) weeks prior to the date on which the permit is
to take effect. Applications not received within this timeframe or
without the required fees and supporting documentation outlined
below may be refused. Applications may be delivered or mailed to
the Department of Planning and Zoning, Zoning Administration
Division, Zoning Permit Review Branch, 12055 Government Center
Parkway, Suite 250, Fairfax, Virginia 22035-5508. For further
information call 703-324-1359. The submission requirements are:

A completed application
form.

A narrative statement on company letterhead covering the
following points (when applicable):

Description of work being conducted on site
-
Number of employees on site (at any one time)

Number of off-street parking spaces
-
Sanitary facilities (if temporary facilities will be used a
copy of the contract is required)

Structure(s), including tents, trailers, canopies, or
shelters
-
Utilities, including outdoor lighting or loudspeaker
-
A copy of a plat or plan showing the location of the trailer(s)
and the distance from these structures to corresponding lot
lines, off-street parking spaces and their access to and from
adjacent streets, and any proposed signs. If signs will be
erected, contact the Department of Code Compliance at
703-324-1300 for further information.

A letter from the property owner granting the applicant
permission to use the property as proposed (if the applicant is
not the property owner).

A Non-Residential Use Permit (Non-RUP) is required in order to
occupy the trailer or model home. Therefore, a Non-RUP fee of
$70.00 is required. A separate check for $70.00 should be made
payable to the County of Fairfax. The Non-RUP will be presented
at the time of TSP issuance.

A TSP filing fee of $205.00. A separate check for this amount
should be made payable to the County of Fairfax .

The Zoning Administrator may deny any application which he or she
believes may have an adverse effect on the surrounding community.
If denied, an appeal may be made to the Board of Zoning Appeals
within thirty (30) days. For further information regarding
temporary special permits, refer to Part 8 of Article 8 of the
Fairfax County Zoning Ordinance (Chapter 112 of the Fairfax County
Code).
