Resource Information Management Services (RIMS)
WHAT RIMS DOES
We collect, classify, and catalog information about human services resources available to Fairfax County residents. This information is then displayed in a searchable database called the Human Services Resource Guide (HSRG) where a user is able to find resources ranging from basic needs such as food, clothing, and health care to support groups, senior services, and afterschool programs.
The HSRG is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for residents and service providers (anyone with Internet access).
HOW RIMS DOES IT
Great emphasis is placed in updating and maintaining accurate information and enhancing the usability and search functionality of the database. While maintaining existing information, staff actively identifies and researches new resources to include in the HSRG. User feedback is critical in ensuring that the HSRG remains a useful and accurate tool.
WHAT ELSE DOES RIMS DO?
RIMS staff regularly conducts trainings on how to use the guide with groups such as:
- community members
- county employees
- faith-based organizations
- school employees
- volunteer groups
RIMS staff participates in community events to increase awareness of
resources available to Fairfax County residents. Staff also serves as
liaison to various human services workgroups and committees to assist
in the identification of resources.
RIMS publishes a bi-monthly newsletter called Resource News that
highlights enhancements and content changes in the Human Services
Resource Guide. Featured community events are also highlighted.
