Reduction in 2012 State Car Tax Subsidy
The percentage of the state's Car Tax Subsidy has decreased to 63% in 2012. This may mean a slight increase in your tax bill from last year.
Virginia's Car Tax subsidy provided to Fairfax County and other localities is capped at a fixed dollar amount. As the county's tax base increases (based on additional cars and tax levy), the amount of subsidy for each car must decrease.
The car tax subsidy is calculated only on the first $20,000 of assessed value of personal use vehicles with a registered gross weight of less than 7,501 pounds.
