Payment Information


The Department of Tax Administration is sensitive to the needs of County Residents and realizes that additional assistance may be needed in these tough economic times. Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) provides assistance in the form of referral services and advocacy to public and private human services to Fairfax County residents. e-Check Payments

  • You can now have your taxes electronically paid from your savings or checking account. There is no service charge to pay by e-Check.
  • Payment is on-time as long as submission is made by the due date. If a check is returned a $50 charge will be added and the payment is void.
  • Simply provide us information from your check, such as your bank routing number (9 digit number located in the lower left corner of your check) and your account number.
  • We will automatically debit your checking or savings account. Please be aware that certain financial institutions only permit e-Check debits from checking accounts and do not permit e-Check debits from savings accounts.

Other Methods of Payment

  • Credit and Debit Card: You can also pay by Credit and Debit Card at the Counter at the Government Center, Suite 223, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, Virginia 22035. A third party processor is used for American Express, MasterCard, VISA, and Discover credit card payments. This company charges a service fee for credit card payments (as allowed by state law).
  • By Mail: Mail checks to Fairfax County, Department of Tax Administration, Suite 223, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, Virginia, 22035. Checks should be made payable to: County of Fairfax. US Postmark must be by the due date to avoid late charges.
  • At Banks: If you have a copy of your current year tax bill and are paying by the original due date, you can pay Fairfax County real estate and car taxes at certain bank branches throughout Fairfax County. You must pay by cash or check only, and the payment must match the amount billed exactly. All branches of the following banks located in Fairfax County participate in this program: SunTrust and Bank of America. Effective January 1, 2014, Wells Fargo bank no longer accepts Fairfax County tax payments.
  • In Person: Visit our main tax office near Fair Oaks Mall at the Fairfax County Government Center, Suite 223, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, Virginia, 22035. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except Thursdays. On Thursdays, the cashier counter is open until 6:30 p.m.
  • Global Express Financial Centers: Pay your car tax by cash only at Global Express Financial Centers in Shoppers Food & Pharmacy locations throughout Fairfax County. For additional locations call 800-989-6669, option 3 then option 4. You must have your bill and pay the exact amount due; a $1.00 processing fee will be charged by Global Express per transaction.

Returned Check Fee: If a check is returned a $50 charge will be added and the payment is void.

Automatic Installments

  • Fairfax County now offers the option to prepay car taxes or real estate taxes through automatic installments debited electronically from your bank account.
  • This installment program is available for real estate tax payments, unless you already pay your taxes through monthly escrows to mortgage companies.
