Real Estate - Other Tax Districts

For properties located in the districts listed below, the indicated levy is added to the base real estate tax rate of $0.92 per $100 assessed value. The base tax rate and other district rates are set annually by the Board of Supervisors as part of the budget process. The tax rates listed are for taxes billed in 2008 (Fiscal Year 2009).

Other Tax Districts are:

  • Pest Infestation Control -The Pest Infestation Control Special Tax District is a countywide tax levy that supports the Integrated Pest Management Program. The current tax rate is $0.001 per $100 of assessed real estate value. The Integrated Pest Management Program includes two separate programs--the Forest Pest Program managed by Land Development Services (Department of Public Works and Environmental Services) and the Disease-Carrying Insects Program managed by the Health Department. The Forest Pest Program currently focuses on preventing the spread of gypsy moth caterpillars, cankerworms, and emerald ash borers in the County. The Disease-Carrying Insects Program focuses on controlling the spread of the West Nile virus. For more information, visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes/environmental/pests.htm, or call the

  • Reston Community Center - This special tax district operates with a levy of $0.047 per $100 of assessed value on residential, commercial, and industrial properties located in the district.

  • McLean Community Center - The tax rate is $0.026 per $100 of assessed value.

  • Burgundy Village Community Center - This special tax district operates on a levy of $0.02 per $100 assessed value on residential, commercial, and industrial properties located in the district.

  • Rte. 28 Transportation Tax District - This special tax district operates on a levy of $0.20 per $100 assessed value on commercial and industrial zoned property, or property used for commercial or industrial purposes within the district. This tax levy does not apply to residential property.

  • Phase 1 Dulles Rail Transportation Improvement District - This special tax district operates on a levy of $0.22 per $100 assessed value on commercial and industrial zoned property, or property used for commercial or industrial purposes within the district.   • Lake Barcroft Watershed Improvement District - This special tax district operates on a levy of $0.103 per $100 assessed value on the residential property located in the district.
  • Commercial Transportation Tax District - The countywide tax district operates on a levy of $0.11 per $100 assessed value on commercially zoned and used property in the county. HB 3202 authorizes localities within Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads to adopt a separate classification of certain commercial and industrial real property for taxation purposes (see Va. Code §58.1-3221.3). Revenues generated by any such additional commercial and industrial real property tax are to be used exclusively for transportation purposes that benefit the locality.
  • Water Service:
    • Small District One within Springfield District - On any lot within the district, an annual assessment of $661 for thirty years commencing July 1, 1993. This annual assessment is for the purpose of providing water service to Clifton Forest, a group of homes located within the Lincoln-Lewis-Vannoy Conservation District.
    • Small District Three within Springfield District - On any lot within the district, an annual assessment of $959 commencing January 1, 2003 and ending December 31, 2032. This annual assessment is for the purpose of providing water service to Colchester Road-Lewis Park, a group of 141 homes located within the Lincoln-Lewis-Vannoy Conservation District.
