Real Estate - Other Tax Districts


The proposed rates and fees listed below are from the FY 2015 (Tax Year 2014) Advertised Budget. Refer to our Tax Rates and Fees page to see the other rates for FY 2015 (Tax Year 2014).

For properties located in the districts listed below, the indicated levy is added to the proposed base real estate tax rate of $1.085 per $100 assessed value. The base tax rate and other district rates are set annually by the Board of Supervisors as part of the budget process.

Other Tax Districts are:

  • Pest Prevention - The Pest Infestation Control Special Tax District is a countywide tax levy that supports the Integrated Pest Management Program. The current tax rate is $0.001 per $100 of assessed real estate value. The Integrated Pest Management Program includes two separate programs--the Forest Pest Program managed by Stormwater Services, Department of Public Works and Environmental Services and the Disease-Carrying Insects Program managed by the Health Department. The Forest Pest Program currently focuses on preventing the spread of State-approved forest insects and diseases in the County. The Disease-Carrying Insects Program focuses on controlling the spread of the West Nile virus, Lyme disease, and other mosquito and tick-borne diseases.
  • Reston Community Center - This special tax district operates on a levy of $0.047 per $100 of assessed value on residential, commercial, and industrial properties located in the district.
  • McLean Community Center - This special tax district operates on a levy of $0.023 per $100 of assessed value on residential, commercial, and industrial properties located in the district. . 
  • Burgundy Village Community Center - This special tax district operates on a levy of $0.02 per $100 assessed value on residential, commercial, and industrial properties located in the district.
  • Rte. 28 Transportation Tax District - This special tax district operates on a levy of $0.18 per $100 assessed value on commercial and industrial zoned property, or property used for commercial or industrial purposes within the district. This tax levy does not apply to residential property.
  • Phase 1 Dulles Rail Transportation Improvement District - This special tax district operates on a levy of $0.21 per $100 assessed value on commercial and industrial zoned property (including commercial apartments), or property used for commercial or industrial purposes within the district. This tax levy does not apply to residential property. This transportation improvement district was approved by the Board of Supervisors at the June 21, 2004 Board Meeting.   • Phase 2 Dulles Rail Transportation Improvement District – This special tax district has a tax rate of $0.20 per $100 assessed value on commercial and industrial zoned property (including commercial apartments), or property used for commercial or industrial purposes within the district. This tax levy does not apply to residential property. This transportation improvement district was approved by the Board of Supervisor at the December 21, 2009 board meeting. For more information, visit the Fairfax County Department of Transportation website http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/fcdot/dullesrail.htm.
  • Lake Barcroft Watershed Improvement District - This special tax district operates on a levy of $0.1189 per $100 assessed value on the residential property located in the district.
  • Commercial Transportation Tax District - The countywide tax district operates on a levy of $0.125 per $100 assessed value on commercially zoned and used property in the county. HB 3202 authorizes localities within Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads to adopt a separate classification of certain commercial and industrial real property for taxation purposes (see Va. Code §58.1-3221.3). Revenues generated by any such additional commercial and industrial real property tax are to be used exclusively for transportation purposes that benefit the locality.
  • Stormwater Service District - This special tax district operates on a levy of $0.0225 per $100 of assessed value on residential, commercial and industrial properties in the county.
  • Tysons Service District - This special tax district operates on a levy of $0.050 per $100 of assessed value on all properties located in the district. Tax for 2013 was only levied for one-half of the year, beginning July 1, 2013 and collected in one tax billing due December 5, 2013. The half-year rate was $0.020 per $100 of assessed value.
  • Water Service:
    • Springfield Water Service District 1 - On any lot within the district, an annual assessment of $661 for thirty years commencing July 1, 1993 and ending June 30, 2023. This annual assessment is for the purpose of providing water service to Clifton Forest, a group of homes located within the Lincoln-Lewis-Vannoy Conservation District.
    • Springfield Water Service District 3 - On any lot within the district, an annual assessment of $959 commencing January 1, 2003 and ending December 31, 2032. This annual assessment is for the purpose of providing water service to Colchester Road-Lewis Park, a group of 141 homes located within the Lincoln-Lewis-Vannoy Conservation District.
