Small Business Seminars (May and June 2007)
The Fairfax County Health Department held a series of
pandemic influenza preparedness seminars for small business groups and
small business owners so that small businesses can learn how they need
to prepare their operations when and if an outbreak happens. The county
supervisor districts co-sponsored these information sessions for
minority and small businesses, held in May and June.
Ministry and Hope During The Pandemic Flu (May 17, 2007)
Fairfax County hosted a conference, "Ministry & Hope
During The Pandemic Flu." Keynote speakers Gloria Addo-Ayensu,
M.D., M.P.H., Director Department of Health, gave a presentation
entitled, "Pandemic Flu: Faith
Community Response" and Lewis Saylor, author of "Being
Ready for the Unexpected in Your Church and Community," presented
"Ministry and
Hope During the Pandemic Flu."

Pandemic Influenza Preparedness for the Foster Care Community

The Fairfax County Health Department and Foster Care and Adoption
Unit presented a workshop on emergency preparedness in the event of a
pandemic flu outbreak for foster parents caring for children and
adults placed by the Fairfax County Department of Family Services.

Influenza Preparedness for the Child Care Community,"
(PDF) was held on Dec. 9, 2006. The presentation was given
by Gloria Addo-Aynsu, MD, MPH, Director, Fairfax County Health
Department; Dr. Raja’a Satouri, Fairfax County Health Department, and
Michelle Milgrim, Fairfax County Health Department.
Human Service Partners Pandemic Influenza Workshop (Dec. 1,
2006)
Fairfax County sponsored a Human Service Partners
Pandemic Influenza workshop for organizations providing services to
county residents. (View the
workshop in its entirity on video on demand.) The focus of
the workshop was to provide organizations with information on pandemic
influenza and on developing a plan for continuity of their
operations. Participants divided into two workshop sessions to
discuss the elements needed in a continuity of operations plan. The
Department of Purchasing and Supply Maintenance provided an overview of
the purchasing and contract issues that might arise during a pandemic
influenza outbreak.

Pandemic Preparedness: Child Care Community (Aug. 21,
2006)
To ensure that child-care providers understand the dangers of a
pandemic flu outbreak and take prudent precautions, the Department of
Family Services’ Office for Children and the Fairfax County Health
Department presented a pandemic flu training for caregivers on Monday,
Aug. 21, 2006. The training covered the dangers of a worldwide pandemic
flu outbreak, county preparedness efforts and what caregivers can do to
lessen the impact of an outbreak on children.

Pandemic Flu Business Summit (May 26, 2006)
Fairfax County hosted a Pandemic Flu Business Summit (PDF file) at the
Fairfax County Government Center, which was also broadcast on cable Channel 16. The
half-day summit was designed for business owners and leaders who gathered
to hear about best practices, share with others questions they
uncovered in their planning process, and to network with other business
leaders that they might rely on during an emergency. Below are
