Fairfax Connector May Operate Service on Monday

Fairfax Connector bus service in south Fairfax County may operate a Limited Sunday schedule on Monday, Sept. 15th if the contract between the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local  3398, the union representing employees, and Veolia Transportation Inc., the contracted bus operator, expires at midnight Sept. 14th without being renewed or extended.

If an agreement is not reached, Veolia does not expect all employees of AFSCME 3398 to report for work on Monday morning, so a limited number of personnel would be available to operate bus service.  The decision to operate a Limited Sunday schedule vs. a weekday schedule is believed to be the maximum level of reliable bus service that can be provided under the circumstances.  Sunday bus service operates on an hourly schedule.

If a job action occurs, Sunday bus service will be operated on the following south county bus routes:  101, 151, 152, 171, 310, 321, 322 and 401.

Bus service will not operate on the following south county bus routes if a job action occurs:  109, 161, 162, 231, 232, 301, 303, 304, 305, 306, 307, 331, 332, 380 and VRE EZ-Bus North and South.

Passengers are advised to check the Fairfax Connector Web site at www.fairfaxconnector.com for updates, call the Fairfax Connector telephone information center at 703-339-7200, TTY 703-339-1608, or visit the Connector Store.  The Connector Store in south county is located at the Franconia-Springfield Metrorail Station.

Passengers affected by these service changes may want to consider other alternatives such as Metrobus, Metrorail, VRE service or carpooling. For ridesharing assistance, call the Fairfax County RideSources office at 703-324-1111, TTY 703-324-1102.  For Metro information call 202-637-7000, TTY 202-638-3780.  For VRE service, dial 1-800-RIDE-VRE.

Fairfax Connector service in north Fairfax County is not affected.

For questions, contact Beth Francis in the Department of Transportation at 703-324-1153, TTY 711.
