Residential Permit Parking - About the Online Application
A New Online RPPD Application
The RPPD program launched a new web based permit management system that allows all applicants to apply online and follow the progress of their request as it moves through the application/ issuance process.
If you already have permits you can activate your current account by setting up a username and password. You will then be able to manage your account by adding, updating or removing vehicles.
New residents will also be able to set up a new account and apply for permits.
Please note, it is NOT necessary to apply for a permit during your renewal cycle.
When initially connecting to your current account or setting up a new one, you will be asked to enter your zip code. As you begin typing in your street address a predefined list of addresses within that zip code will appear to select from. You will also be asked for your full name, driver’s license number and state of issuance, phone number and email address.
You will setup a username and password (6 or more characters) and also respond to 3 challenge questions that will allow you to reset your password if you forget it.
Pay special attention to the response to ‘Exception’. (Detailed information on Exceptions can be found on the main RPPD Permit Application page.) If any of the options pertain to YOU, select it. Otherwise leave it blank. The response that you give to this question may determine whether you receive a temporary permit or will have to submit documents before we issue you a permanent permit. You will receive a confirmation email that your account has been created.
You will then be prompted to enter your vehicle information. Be prepared to enter the VIN of the vehicle, license plate and state of issuance, year, make and model. Also have your Fairfax County vehicle personal property tax number ready to enter in the ‘Personal Property Number’ field.
If you have not registered your vehicle follow the directions on the previous page under “Registering a vehicle with the Department of Tax Administration (DTA)”. When that online session is complete, enter the number displayed on the screen in the ‘Transaction Reference Number’ field instead.
Pay special attention to the response to ‘Exception’. If any of the options pertain to the specific vehicle that you are entering, select it. Otherwise leave it blank. The response that you give to this question may determine whether you receive a temporary permit or will have to submit documents before we issue you a permanent permit. You will receive an email with a tracking number for each permit that you apply for. If additional documents are required that you will be faxing or mailing to us, please include the generated tracking number for that vehicle.
All information that you enter will be verified with DMV and the Fairfax County DTA for vehicles. Any incorrect information will only delay the processing of your request.
