FAIRFAX COUNTY TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY COMMISSION
MEETING SUMMARY

Regular Meeting - February 1, 2005
7:15 PM - Room 7, Government Conference Center

TAC Members in attendance: Janyce Hedetniemi, Camille Klein, Jeff Parnes and Earl Flanagan.

Others in Attendance: Jay Guy, FCDOT; Carl Winstead, FCDOT

The meeting was called to order at 7:20pm


Main Topics Discussed

Meeting minutes of 01/04/05 were approved.

Board Referrals:

There were no new referrals from the Board of Supervisors.

Transportation Plan Review

Discussed Objective 14, and whether it could be incorporated into another objective or needed to stand alone. Change objective to address suburb-to-suburb community patterns.

Policy A. – Cooperate with area local governments to coordinate and plan a network of transit routes, services and roads that provide alternatives to commuting by SOV.

Policy B. – Provide access to major County employment centers through improved transit and roadway facilities and services.

Earl – Planning Commission review of transportation plan methodology – PC wanted nominations by public with review similar to the APR process.

Next meeting, overall review of the transportation plan and public involvement on plan review.

Transportation Summit Update

There will be no voting mechanism at the closing session. It will be more information sharing than policy setting.

Transportation Legislation Review

Insurance premium will probably roll into Transportation Trust Fund. Fuel tax will probably not pass. Transit and rail may get additional funding.

Announcements:

Earl – Mount Vernon Council adopted resolution that Route 1 studies have public participation.

Jeff – Stringfellow Road improvements will be delayed until past 2011 due to relocation of fuel pipeline paralleling the road. Centreville Road improvements will start this spring.
