Meeting Summary

Date: Regular Meeting – November 21, 2006

TAC Commissioners in Attendance: Chairman George Barker, Vice Chairman Janyce Hedetniemi, Jeff Parnes, Brian Deery, Eric Thiel.

Others in Attendance: Department of Transportation Staff Calvin Lam, Bob Owolabi, Mike Lake, Angela Rodeheaver, Dan Rathbone, and Beth Francis.

The meeting was called to order by Chairman George Barker at 7:20 pm

Board Referrals:
There were no new referrals from the Board of Supervisors.

Main Topics:

Transportation Demand Management Presentation: County staff presented an executive summary of the Transportation Demand Management (TDM) process and the county’s role in the overall process. TDM has increasing input on zoning and development applications. Analyses by staff working in the TDM area set trip reduction goals and generate plans and budgets. County staff is currently working on a strategic TDM plan for the county. The BOS has asked the staff for recommendations on how to increase TDM use and effectiveness throughout the county. The county has hired an outside consulting team to determine rules and expectations for reduction effectiveness for various TDM methods as applied to Fairfax County.

Tyson’s Plan Status: Janyce Hedetniemi indicated that multiple subcommittees have been formed to deal with the issues associated with creating the plan. Multiple public meetings are being scheduled for public input. Three support contractors have been hired to assist with generating the plan on a 14 month schedule.

Residential and Commercial Parking: Postponed.

New Items: George Barker formally introduced Mr. Bob Owolabi and Calvin Lamb from FCDOT. There was a short discussion of the topics for the December 5th TAC meeting; a short update on the parking plan and a Route 28 update.
