Board Referrals: There were no new referrals from the Board of Supervisors.
Special Populations Transportation Programs
Update:
Denis Paddeu, Senior Transportation Planner, Transit Services Division,
Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) updated the TAC on
the County's Special populations Transportation Programs.
- Seniors On-The Go- Moderate income seniors are eligible for an affordable taxicab program, subsidized by the county, to provide a safe and affordable way for seniors to get around. The program currently operates through the purchase of coupon books but is transitioning to a paperless electronic EZ card system. In operation since March 2002, there are currently 3483 active customers with an average of 30 or more new customers each month.
- TaxiAccess - This new pilot program, fashioned after the Seniors-On-The-Go program, to provide disabled individuals affordable travel by taxicab. Individuals registered with MetroAccess are eligible. The program was started March 2007. The anticipated number of users is 1100.
- Travel Training- A short term instruction program designed to teach seniors and disabled individuals the independent use of public transportation. Goal is to retrofit old buses for use in this program.
Fairfax Connector Operations and Performance
Updates:
Tom Black, Chief, Fairfax Connector Section, FCDOT updated TAC on the
status of the Connector program. Fairfax County Connector is the 88th
largest fleet system in the country. Ridership in 2007 is up almost 2% to
over 9.7 million. Weekend ridership growth is exceeding weekdays. County
is acquiring 94 new buses. The system provides low fares, frequent
service and free parking. Mr. Black also reviewed the capital improvement
plan for the next two years.
2007 Bond Referendum Updates:
Vice Chairman Janyce Hedetniemi reported on the activities of 2007 Bond
Referendum Citizen's Committee in support of the vote on November 6.
Tysons Corner Area Plan Study:
Chairman Barker reported on the Tysons Corner Area Plan Study. The study
committee is focusing on two major options: developing intensely around
metro stations or a more dispersed development around a transportation
loop served by buses. The next task is to receive a report from
consultant on the two options. Public input will be gathered early in
2008.

- November 20, 2007: Update on Annual Report of Capital Projects in Fairfax County.
- December 4, 2007: Comprehensive Bicycle Initiative
Announcements:
- The Office of the Clerk to the Board of Supervisors plans to offer training to members of Boards, Authorities, Commissions, or Committees in the Government Center on November 15, 2007 at 7 p.m. Following a brief overview of the appointment/reappointment process by the Clerk's office, members of the local chapter of the National Association of Parliamentarians will offer a workshop on conducting effective meetings with parliamentary procedure.
- Jeff Parnes reported on the Board of Supervisor's subcommittee on Transportation meeting held on October 1, 2007.
- TAC's next meeting has been rescheduled from November 6 until November 20 due to Virginia elections.
