Main Topics Discussed

Board Referrals:
There were no new referrals from the Board of Supervisors

Tyson Corner Area Plan Study (Tyson Corner Land Use Task Force)
Keith Turner presented an oral report and provided detailed documents setting forth the status of the Task Force study. The documents included, inter alia, the TDM Subcommittee report, the Transportation Subcommittee report and the Tyson Corner Land Use Study prepared by Cambridge Systematics. These reports provide strategies and possible network alternatives for consideration by the Task Force. In that connection, the Task Force has received continuous input from the community via many outreach meetings and other programs. It also has received advice from experts retained to assist in the study. The goal is for the Task Force to present a Comprehensive Plan Draft. Funding remains a key, unresolved issue.

Advance Signage Program
Don Ostrander provided a slide presentation with respect to VDOT's policy concerning signs in advance of intersections. The VDOT policy only relates to signalized intersections and is done on a case-by-case basis. During the meeting, some concerns were raised with respect to a mechanism for community input and VDOT policy review. Based upon the questions and answers, the TAC will consider possible changes and/or additions to VDOT's policies at the February 5th meeting.

Capital Beltway HOT Lanes Project
Barbara Reese and her staff provided a detailed slide presentation concerning the HOT Lanes Project with respect to both the Beltway and I-95. While the discussions focused on many issues, electronic toll payment via EZ-Pass, project funding, access to/from the HOT lanes at specific locations and planned construction dates evoked many questions.

Other Business

OTAC Award Nominations: The Commission adopted the draft TAC Award "Release" with a minor change. Nominations will be solicited over the next few months and a subcommittee (Hedetniemi, Rhoades and Adams) was formed to review the nominations and make a recommendation to the group.

TAC ElectionBy unanimous votes, Janyce Hedetniemi was elected as the Chair; Jeffrey Parnes was elevated to Vice Chair; and Roger Haskins was re-elected as Secretary.
