Marine operations are some of the most demanding types of incidents encountered by the Fire and Rescue Department. The success of a water rescue incident is dependent on the application of advanced skills acquired thourgh specialized training and advanced working knowledge of marine equipment, and a thorough understanding of the waterways bordering and within Fairfax County. Marine operations consist of incidents involving swift water (rapids, white water, etc.), static water (lakes, ponds, etc.), and open water (rivers, bays, etc.).
