Ronald L. Mastin, Fire chief
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department
Chief Mastin is a 38-year fire and rescue veteran, serving in the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department from 1973 to 2001, then as Fire Chief for Henrico County from 2001 to 2007, and then returned to Fairfax County as our Fire Chief in June of 2007.
Chief Mastin manages a $160M annual budget, 37 fire stations, and directs a staff of almost 1900 representing uniformed, civilian, and operational volunteer personnel. He is responsible for the planning and coordination, and the direction of the department which includes fire suppression and prevention, emergency medical services, hazardous materials abatement, technical rescue, life safety education, arson investigation services, and administrative and support services.
Chief Mastin is the Chairman of the Virginia Fire and Emergency Services Foundation, serves on the International Association of Fire Chiefs EMAC Committee, is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the IAFC Metropolitan Fire Chiefs. Chief Mastin also serves on the Virginia Governor’s Wireless E911 Services Board. He earned a Bachelor of Science in fire administration and management from the University of Maryland, and an Associate in Applied Science in fire administration from Northern Virginia Community College.
