Lightning Strike Causes Townhouse Fire

 

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a townhouse fire at approximately 12:50 a.m., Tuesday, June 7, 2005, in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The three-story townhouse is located at 6265 Masefield Court.

First arriving units saw fire and smoke coming from the roof and quickly requested a second alarm. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. Additionally, there was minor fire damage to an adjoining townhouse. There were no injuries. Two adults escaped unharmed and have been displaced. The family will be staying with relatives.

Damage is estimated at $250,000.

According to fire investigators, the cause of the fire was accidental. A lightning strike to the chimney caused the fire.
