Reston High-Rise Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a high-rise commercial building fire in the Reston area of Fairfax County on Saturday, June 11, 2005, at approximately 1:50 a.m. The building is located at 11710 Plaza America Drive.

First arriving units saw smoke and fire coming from the first floor of the building. The sprinkler system helped control the fire until firefighters arrived where they completely extinguished the fire in a first floor storage room. There were no injuries. It was determined that a large transformer exploded on the fourth floor causing several electrical faults throughout the building.

Damage is estimated at $100,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. An electrical arc in the first floor storage room ignited clothes in a plastic container causing the fire.
