Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a four-alarm condominium fire at approximately 3:30 a.m., Sunday, July 3, 2005, in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County.
The three-story condominiums are located at 7316 and 7318 Lee Highway and are known as Timberline Condominiums.
Firefighters saw fire visible from the front and sides of the condominiums on several floors upon arrival. The fire was brought under control in approximately 50 minutes. The four-alarm fire brought approximately 100 firefighters and 60 emergency vehicles to the scene. One resident was transported to the Washington Burn Center for treatment of severe burns.
A temporary shelter was established for displaced residents at Timberline Elementary School where the American Red Cross assisted residents. Approximately 100 residents have been displaced. Emergency fire and rescue units from Arlington County, City of Alexandria, and Fairfax City all provided support and resources to the scene.
Damage is estimated at $1.5 million.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. A natural gas-powered furnace on the third-floor caused the fire.
