Accidental Fire at Lake Braddock High School

 

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a fire at Lake Braddock High School at approximately 12:55 p.m., Tuesday, July, 5, 2005, in the Burke area of Fairfax County. The school is located at 9200 Burke Lake Road.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke visible from the first and second floor of the school upon arrival. The fire was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes. There were no injuries. The school was undergoing renovation by construction crews when the fire broke out.

Damage is estimated at $300,000.

Damaged electronic equipment accounted for $250,000 of the loss.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. A piece of hot metal fell through an open pipe chase, igniting combustibles on the first floor.
