Lightning Strike Starts Fire

 

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 4:40 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2005, in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 2308 Popkins Lane. Firefighters arrived to find a two-story single-family home with fire through the roof.

Firefighters immediately requested a second alarm, bringing over 60 emergency personnel to the scene. The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes. There were no reported injuries. Four adults were displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

Damage is estimated at $250,000.

The cause of the fire was accidental; a lightning strike to the roof caused the fire.
