Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to house fire at approximately 2:55 p.m., Thursday, July 21, 2005, in the Herndon area of Fairfax County. The home is located at 646 Alabama Drive.
Firefighters saw smoke coming from the first floor and basement of the split-level home upon arrival. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes. Two residents have been displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting the residents. Four pets perished in the fire.
Damage is estimated at $75,000.
According to fire investigators the fire was accidental. Improper disposal of smoking materials caused the fire.
