Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and the Fairfax County Citizens Corps will
conduct Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training exercises for a business. The
training for more than two-dozen employees of McLean-based BearingPoint, Inc., one of the
world’s largest management consulting and systems integration firms, will take place Saturday,
September 17 and Saturday, 24, 2005, at the Department’s Fire and Rescue Academy, 4600 West Ox
Road, Fairfax, Virginia.
Employees from BearingPoint’s Homeland Security and Intelligence practice will participate
in the 30-hour Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) standard course designed to train
citizens to be better prepared to assist emergency personnel during disasters, both natural
and manmade. A final training exercise, to be held later this year, will evaluate an
individual’s ability to respond and use their skills to assess structural damage, locate,
treat, and rescue victims until first responders arrive on the scene.
Since January of this year, approximately 100 county residents have taken CERT training,
but the exercise with BearingPoint marks the first time training will be provided specifically
to a county business.
The effort coincides with National Preparedness month. For more information visit
