Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 11:30 p.m., Monday night, October 24, 2005, in the Annandale area of Fairfax County. The three-story, garden style condominium is located in the 6600 block of Jupiter Hills Circle.
First arriving firefighters reported heavy smoke showing from the third and top floor of the structure. An additional alarm was requested, bringing over 60 emergency personnel to the scene. Firefighters conducted an aggressive attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes. All residents from the building evacuated prior to firefighters arriving. One occupant received minor injuries and was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Two adult residents were displaced, one from the fire unit and one from the unit below the fire unit. The condominium received heavy smoke and fire damage and the unit below sustained heavy water damage.
Damage is estimated at $100,000.
According to fire investigators, the cause of the fire was accidental. Improper disposal of smoking materials caused the fire.
