Unattended Candle Causes House Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 1, 2005, in the Penn Daw area of Fairfax County. The two-story single-family home is located at 6108 Bangor Drive.

First arriving firefighters reported fire and smoke coming from the first floor. The fire was brought under control in approximately 10 minutes. Five adults were displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents. There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at $150,000.

According to fire investigators, the cause of the fire was accidental. An unattended candle in the bedroom caused the fire.
