Mount Vernon House Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 1:50 a.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2005, in the Mount Vernon area of Fairfax County. The house is located at 7122 Rita Court.

First arriving units saw fire and smoke coming from the garage of the single-family home. Firefighters made an aggressive attack, stopping the fire before spreading into the home. The deck to the rear of the home also caught fire and received major damage. The American Red Cross is assisting the six adults and two children that have been displaced. There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at $70,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. An electrical anomaly in the garage caused the fire.
