Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a garage fire at approximately 2:50 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2005, in the Bailey's Crossroads area of Fairfax County. The two-story detached garage is located at 3423 Charles Street.
Firefighters arrived to find the double garage fully involved with fire. The fire was brought under control in approximately 10 minutes.
Fire investigators discovered a burned body during their investigation. The Police Department is assisting with the investigation.
During the investigation, two adult males had escaped the fire and received significant burns to various parts of their body. They were both flown to the Washington Burn Center. The injuries were not life threatening. All three victims were using the area above the garage as shelter.
Release of the victim's name is pending next of kin notification.
Damage is estimated at $20,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. This is Fairfax County’s third fire fatality for 2005.
