Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to an apartment fire at approximately 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2006, in the Town of Vienna. The Vienna Park Apartments are located at 150 Patrick Street South East.
First arriving firefighters reported heavy smoke coming from the front of the three-story garden apartment. A third alarm was subsequently requested bringing over 90 emergency personnel to the scene. Firefighters conducted an aggressive attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 60 minutes. One firefighter was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The fire damaged five units, and displaced 18 residents from 150 Patrick Street. Forty-seven additional residents were displaced due to the lack of utilities affecting units at 148, 152, 154 Patrick Street South East. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
Damage is estimated at $300,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. A welder using a torch on the first level started the fire.
