Unattended Candle Causes House Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 8:10 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2006, in the Centreville area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 14351 Jacob Lane.

Firefighters saw fire and smoke coming from the second floor of the two-story home upon arrival. The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes. One firefighter was transported to Fair Oaks Hospital where he was treated and released. Two adults and three children have been displaced.

Damage is estimated at $50,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. An unattended candle caused the fire.
