Lightning Strike Starts West Springfield House Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 1:20 a.m., Friday, June 23, 2006, in the West Springfield area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 8608 Nanlee Drive.

Firefighters arrived to find a two-story single-family dwelling with fire through the roof. Firefighters conducted an aggressive attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 45 minutes. There were no reported injuries. Three adults have been displaced.

Damage is estimated at $400,000.

The cause of the fire was accidental; a lightning strike to the roof caused the fire.
