Lightning Strike Starts Herndon House Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 8:10 p.m., Sunday, June 25, 2006, in the Herndon area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 685 Old Hunt Way.

Firefighters arrived to find a large two-story single-family dwelling with heavy smoke coming from the front of the house. Firefighters conducted an aggressive attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 45 minutes. There were no reported injuries.

The Red Cross is assisting the three adults who are displaced.

Damage is estimated at $200,000.

The cause of the fire was accidental; a lightning strike to the house caused the fire.
