Mount Vernon House Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 7 p.m., Thursday, August 17, 2006, in the Mount Vernon area of Fairfax County. The house is located at 8101 Bainbridge Road.

Firefighters reported fire from the rear of the single-family home. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes. Two firefighters were transported to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, and later released. One adult female was displaced. Red Cross is assisting the displaced resident.

Damage is estimated at $70,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. A malfunctioning clothes dryer in the laundry room caused the fire.
