Two-Alarm Burke House Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 6:20 a.m., Wednesday, August 30, 2006, in the Burke area of Fairfax County. The single-family house is located at 9438 Wallingford Drive.

First arriving firefighters reported heavy fire coming from the garage extending to the roof of the two-story home. A second alarm was requested bringing over 70 emergency personnel to the scene. Firefighters conducted an aggressive attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. Six adults and one child have been displaced, the Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

Damage is estimated at $250,000.

According to fire investigators the fire was accidental. Improper disposal of smoking materials caused the fire.
