John J. Caussin, Jr. Selected for Assistant Chief

Fire Chief Michael P. Neuhard has selected John J. Caussin, Jr. for promotion to Assistant Chief, effective October 28, 2006. He will be assigned as the Assistant Chief of Personnel Services. He currently serves as Deputy Chief of Support Services.

Assistant Chief Caussin became a firefighter in 1985, beginning his career at Fire and Rescue Station 18, Jefferson. He was promoted to Technician in 1988 and to Lieutenant in 1989 with assignments at Fire and Rescue Station 11, Penn Daw, Fire and Rescue Station 21, Fair Oaks, Fire and Rescue Station 18, Jefferson, and the Fire and Rescue Academy. Assistant Chief Caussin was promoted to Captain I in 1995 and assigned to Fire and Rescue Station 14, Burke. He was promoted to Captain II in 1998 and assigned as Station Commander at the Fire and Rescue Station 15, Chantilly, and subsequently assigned to Fire and Rescue Station 24, Woodlawn. He was promoted to Battalion Chief in 2002.

In February 2005, he was promoted to Deputy Chief of Support Services responsible for radio communications, apparatus, information technology, resource management, and logistics within the department.

As the Assistant Chief for Personnel Services, he will supervise Safety and Personnel Services, Fire and Rescue Academy, Professional Standards office, Equal Employment Opportunity office, Women’s Programs office, and the Volunteer Liaison.

Assistant Chief Caussin is certified as a National Registry Paramedic, NREMT-P, and has an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science, Fire Administration (Summa Cum Laude) from Northern Virginia Community College, and a Bachelor of Science in Communication Arts from James Madison University. Assistant Chief Caussin lives in Springfield, Virginia, with his wife Pam, and three children, Terra, Michael, and Jack.
