Fire Chief Michael P. Neuhard has selected Daryl L. Louder for promotion to Assistant Chief, effective October 28, 2006. Assistant Chief Louder will be assigned as Assistant Chief of Business Services. He currently serves as Deputy Chief of Special Operations.
Assistant Chief Louder became a firefighter in 1983, beginning his career at Fire and Rescue Station 16, Clifton. Over the next several years, he was assigned to various stations throughout the county including; Fire and Rescue Stations 16, Clifton, Fire and Rescue Station 1, McLean, Fire and Rescue Station 34, Oakton, and Fire and Rescue Station 17, Centreville. In 1993 he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the Fire and Rescue Academy.
Assistant Chief Louder was promoted to Captain II in 1998, and reassigned to Fire and Rescue Station 17, Centreville, as Station Commander. He was promoted to Battalion Chief Special Operations, Hazardous Materials Response Team (HMRT) Program Manager in 2001.
Assistant Chief Louder was promoted to Deputy Chief, Special Operations in 2003. From 2003 until 2005 he served as a senior manager for one of three field operational shifts. Since 2005, he has been responsible for Special Operations programs including; hazardous materials, technical rescue, urban search and rescue, and marine operations.
As Assistant Chief for Business Services, he will be responsible for the daily operations of Fire Prevention, Public Information and Life Safety Education, Support Services, Planning, and Fiscal Services.
Deputy Chief Louder has a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Science Management, University of Maryland, and is currently enrolled in a masters program. He serves as the program manager for the National Capital Region – Incident Management Team and has served as a technical specialist for a Federal Emergency Management Agency Urban Search and Rescue Incident Support Team.
Deputy Chief Louder resides in Centerville, Virginia.
