Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a structure fire at approximately 3:25 a.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2006, in the Lorton-Springfield area of Fairfax County. The two-story townhouse is located at 7721 Saratoga Ridge Court.
Firefighters reported heavy fire visible from the rear of the townhouse that was attached to three-story garden apartments. An additional alarm was dispatched bringing over 60 emergency personnel to the scene. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes.
The activation of a smoke alarm alerted residents enabling them to safely escape. Five adults were displaced. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents. There were no reported injuries.
Damage is estimated at $ 750,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. The fire originated near an electrical transformer as part of the Christmas tree lighting system.
