Unattended Candle Causes Clifton House Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 12:40 a.m., Monday, December 25, 2006, in the Town of Clifton. The house is located at 7221 Dell Avenue.

Firefighters reported fire visible from the side and rear of a two-story, single-family home. The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes. Two adults were at home when the fire started, and were alerted by the smoke alarm. The two adult residents jumped out the second- story window to escape the fire. There were no reported injuries. Two adults have been displaced.

Damage is estimated at $300,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. An unattended candle in the living room caused the fire.
