Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a mobile home fire that claimed two lives, at approximately 10:25 a.m., Sunday, March 10, 2007, in the Chantilly area of Fairfax County. The names of the victims have not been released, pending identification. The home is located at 14530 Lanica Circle.
Firefighters saw heavy fire and smoke coming from the double-wide mobile home upon arrival. The home was fully involved with fire and threatened other nearby homes because of the volume of flames and windy conditions. A second alarm was quickly struck bringing over 60 emergency personnel to the scene. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. Firefighters found two adult victims during the primary search of the home. No one else was home when the fire broke out. One other occupant has been displaced. Two adjacent mobile homes received radiant heat damage resulting in melted vinyl siding and several cracked windows. Red Cross is assisting the family.
Damage is estimated at $75,000. The home is a complete loss.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. An unattended candle caused the fire.
This is the second and third fire fatalities for Fairfax County for the year.
