Centreville Townhouse Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a townhouse fire at approximately 11:35 p.m., Saturday, June 23, 2007, in the Centreville area of Fairfax County. The townhouse is located at 14005 Sawteeth Way.

Firefighters encountered flames and smoke to the rear of an end unit of a three-story townhouse upon arrival. The fire extended up the exterior of the vinyl siding and into the attic, and subsequently burning away the roof. It took firefighters approximately 25 minutes to bring the fire under control. There was minor damage to an adjacent townhouse unit. There were no injuries. The family of four, two adults and two children, have been displaced. Red Cross was not needed.

Damage is estimated at $285,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. Improperly discarded smoking materials on the rear deck caused the fire.
