Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 12:35 p.m., Sunday, July 15, 2007, at 13513 Portage Place in the Centreville area of Fairfax County.
Firefighters reported fire in an attached garage of a single-family dwelling. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately three hours.
Five occupants of the house, two adults and three children, have been displaced.
There were no reported injuries to firefighters or citizens.
Fire investigators have determined the cause of the fire to be accidental. The fire resulted when a spark from a grinding operation made contact with a container of explosive material.
Fairfax County Fire Investigators, Hazardous Material Investigators, the Hazardous Material Team, Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team, and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms are currently investigating this incident.
Damage to the home is estimated at $250,000.
