Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a condominium fire Sunday, August 19, 2007, at approximately 9:20 a.m., in the Annandale area of Fairfax County. The condominium is located at 7764 Donnybrook Court. According to fire investigators, the fire was intentionally set. Investigators have charged Mauricio Coreas, 40, with 18.2-77, burning an occupied dwelling; 18.2-83, threat to burn a dwelling; and 18.2-86, setting a fire capable of spreading.
Firefighters encountered smoke and fire in the rear of the three-story condominium upon arrival. The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes. The fire originated in the master bedroom. One adult male was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. One firefighter was transported to the Washington Hospital Burn Center for non-life threatening injuries. Three adults and two children have been displaced. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced.
Damage is estimated at $100,000.
Coreas is being held in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
