Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a commercial building fire at approximately 10:25 p.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2007, in the Springfield area of the county. The building houses the Virginia Concrete Company and is located at 6860 Commercial Drive.
Firefighters saw fire and smoke in front of the two-story building upon arrival. The outside fire burned bushes and mulch and extended to the exterior causing moderate smoke damage inside on both floors of the office building. Two nearby vehicles also received fire damage. The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes. There were no injuries.
Damage is estimated at $50,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. Improperly discarded smoking materials caused the fire.
